Angkor Tom was the royal city during the heyday of nearby Angkor Wat, and believed to have housed up to 1 million people. The temple at the entrance to the main complex is called Bayon, but what it was called during its period of use is unknown. There are also several theories behind the many faces carved on the temple and Angkor Tom, but their origin is still being debated.
